Jannik Sinner’s doping case ended quite controversially about a month ago, when it was announced that the world number 1 and WADA had reached an agreement for a three-month suspension (from February 9 to May 4).
Except for the two parties involved, almost no one was happy with this solution for several reasons. Some players and insiders said that this deal was too comfortable for the Italian ace, who will not miss a single Grand Slam tournament and is almost certain to retain the top position in the ATP rankings.
If he had arrived at the trial before the CAS in Lausanne, the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria would have risked suffering a sanction of one to two years which would have damaged his career in a much more significant way.
The 3-time Grand Slam champion is working hard from an athletic point of view in recent weeks together with Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio, wanting to file some details to become even more unstoppable.
Panatta reflects on Sinner
Jannik – who won the first Major of the season at Melbourne Park – has already set his sights on Roland Garros, where he reached the semifinals as his best career result so far.
According to several experts, Sinner has the chance to make the ‘Calendar Grand Slam’ as early as this year if he does not have injuries or other problems.
Meanwhile, Italian legend Adriano Panatta explained why Jannik is the best in the world right now and assured that this suspension won’t affect him too much.
“Sinner is an absolute champion, he plays tennis perfectly.
“Mentally, he is the strongest of all, I put him on the same level as Nadal, Djokovic and Borg. He will undoubtedly make history in tennis” – Panatta stated.
He also added: “His suspension? There is no doubt that Jannik is completely innocent. As I have said in the past, he is the only one who is guilty without having committed the act.
I do not think much of WADA, my thoughts are not favorable towards them.”
