Boris Becker isn’t really buying into Iga Swiatek’s excuse over IW ball kid incident

Boris Becker is wishing Iga Swiatek all the best going forward but he doesn’t appear to be fully buying her social media in which she very openly addressed her recent emotional state.

In case you missed it, the second-ranked WTA star caught a lot of heat and backlash over the last couple of days after nearly hitting a ball kid with a ball in Indian Wells. A couple of weeks earlier, the five-time Grand Slam champion also took out her frustration on a racket in Doha, which also drew attention since she is not known for that kind of stuff.

“I immediately apologized to the ball boy, we made eye contact, and nodded to each other when I expressed regret that it happened near him. I’ve seen many players bounce balls in frustration, and frankly, I didn’t expect such harsh judgments,” Swiatek wrote in a message posted on Instagram.

Swiatek also admitted that the situation surrounding her doping case negatively impacted her mental health. Also, she suggested that she can’t do right in the eyes of the public by stating that she is called “robotic” when focused and not showing many emotions, while she gets called “immature and hysterical” when expressing herself more.

Becker on Swiatek’s message: Lots of excuses and long explanations…

“Lots of excuses and looooong explanations… not sure anymore! Usually always supporting the players! I wish Iga to find her peace on the tennis court! She is a proven champion!” the former six-time Grand Slam champion wrote when reacting to the Pole’s message.

In late 2024, Swiatek said she was going through the toughest period of her life during the doping process and that she was crying a lot, as well as being stressed out.

While the former world No. 1 has made three semifinals this year, she hasn’t really looked like her usual self and she remains without a title since the 2024 French Open.

It remains to be seen if opening up will help Swiatek end her title drought at the Miami Open.
