Daniil Medvedev to start grass season week after French Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch

Daniil Medvedev is set to start his grass season in ‘s-Hertogenbosch after the Libema Open organizers confirmed his participation through social media.

Since the ATP 250 tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch is taking place the week after the French Open, it means that the Russian will make a quick transition from clay to grass courts. However, it won’t be the first time to see the 29-year-old doing so since he has already played at the Dutch event five times in the past.

“I’m looking forward to being back in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. It is a great start of the grass court season and a very nice tournament to play,” Medvedev said in a statement.

This year’s Libema Open edition is taking place between June 09-15.

How Medvedev did on the grass courts of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the past?

Between 2016 and 2018, the former world No. 1 made three consecutive appearances at the Libema Open. In his first two appearances, the Russian made the main draw as a qualifier – losing in the round-of-16 in 2016 before having a quarterfinal showing the following year. In 2018, he exited the tournament in the round-of-16.

After not playing in s’-Hertogenbosch for a couple of years, Medvedev returned to the event in 2022 and made the final – in which he was upset by local Tim van Rijthoven. A year later, the current world No. 8 made his fifth appearance and picked up his third round-of-16 loss at the tournament.

Apart from the runner-up finish in 2022, Medvedev hasn’t had that much success in s’-Hertogenbosch. However, he evidently feels it still provides him good preparation for Wimbledon and that’s why he is set to start his grass season there once again.
