Nick Kyrgios thinks he deserves to be given more respect for his efforts as the Australian called out a fan who appeared to mockingly post about the Australian getting his first win in a couple of years.
On Wednesday, the former world No. 13 came back from a set down to beat Mackenzie McDonald 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the Miami Masters first round. For the 29-year-old, it was his first victory on the main level since he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the 2022 US Open round-of-16.
Following a quarterfinal showing at the 2022 US Open, Kyrgios had to surgically repair his knee and wrist. Before coming to Miami, the Australian lost his first-round matches in Brisbane and the Australian Open, while his troublesome wrist forced him to retire during his Indian Wells first-round match.
“Nick Kyrgios wins a pro tennis match for the first time in 4 years (laughing emoji),” the post read.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist noticed it and it didn’t look like he appreciated much the wording of it: “Was 2 years but that’s aight – appreciate the support. Career ending wrist surgery and came back? Thanks lol – I used to win a fair bit or did you guys forget.”

Kyrgios’ admission following his Miami opening win
After being out for two years and battling wrist pain and discomfort in his first three comeback tournaments, it definitely didn’t look promising for the 29-year-old.
“I thought I’d never play tennis again, to be brutally honest with you. That was going that way,” the seven-time ATP champion said after his comeback win against McDonald.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios plays next against Karen Khachanov. A bit interestingly, the Russian was the player who ended the Australian’s run at the 2022 US Open.
