Tiger Woods’ ex-caddie reveals why Tiger didn’t break Nicklaus’ major record

When Tiger Woods arrived on the golf scene, he set high goals for himself, aware of his quality and superiority.

Arriving on the golf scene, young Tiger impressed the public with his moves, great form and winning Majors. No one had a doubt that Woods would break all the existing records. However, age and injuries took their toll, and Woods still hasn’t broken Jack Nicklaus’ Major record.

Namely, the 49-year-old has won 15 Majors, while Nicklaus has 18.

His former caddy, Steve Williams, said in an interview with Sky Sports that everything looked as if Woods would really break Nicklaus’ record. However, pressure seems to have been an important component in this story.

“Everything was towards breaking Jack’s [Nicklaus] record of 18 major championships,” Williams said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“As every year passed along and every major went by, there was just more and more pressure on that. Right there and then, I truly believed that he would eclipse it.

His dedication, his drive, his practice, the way he played and prepared for and we way he peaked for majors was better than anybody else. It’s a lot of pressure caddying for Tiger, but it’s great pressure and stuff that we’ve thrived on.”

The Masters (2005)

Williams recalled the Masters in 2005, when the young Woods excelled. Williams didn’t forget the 16th hole, and the great chip-in-birdie.

The famous caddy described that moment, saying that Tiger sent the ball down the left side. Williams was not sure that Woods would be successful.

At the beginning, he thought that the ball was going into the bunker, then into the water, not knowing what would happen. The famous golfer then talked to the caddy, analyzing what could affect the trajectory of the ball and whether it would go too far, but Tiger showed his qualities when it was crucial.

The famous caddy believes that if he repeated such a move countless times, Tiger would not succeed in the same.

Their parting happened in 2011, but Williams has many great memories with Woods that he will never forget. He is still impressed by Tiger’s approach, dedication and desire to make history.
