Naomi brings girly glam to Roland Garros with spectacular attention to detail

Naomi Osaka brought the long-missed touch of glamour back to Roland Garros, much to the delight of fashion-loving tennis fans. Aspiring to follow in the stylish footsteps of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, the four-time Grand Slam champion partnered with Nike to create a Paris outfit where every detail was thoughtfully curated. Sadly, this eye-catching look made only a brief appearance on court, as the former world No. 1 bowed out in a dramatic first-round clash against Top 10 player Paula Badosa.

Ahead of the French Open, Osaka shared how much she adored her sakura-inspired tennis shoes, which are available for purchase at Tennis Warehouse. From the moment we saw the playful design, it was clear her outfit would follow suit, and sure enough, her on-court look embraced the ultra-girly aesthetic.

Her hairstyle instantly grabbed attention: two puffs on top of her head, each adorned with cherry blossom-like accessories, perfectly tying into her Japanese spring-inspired theme.

Osaka’s dress was extra feminine. The light pink Nike piece featured a mock-neck racerback design and a flowy, layered skirt with a rounded hemline. The burgundy contrast trim on the neck and back added a touch of structure to the soft, romantic silhouette.

During warm-up, Osaka wore a varsity-style Nike jacket, whose main body is a rich burgundy color with a shiny, glossy finish, while the sleeves are pale pink. The trim on the cuffs, collar, and waistband features white and burgundy stripes, enhancing the sporty varsity look.

Even her manicure matched the theme, with floral nail art completing the head-to-toe aesthetic. But beauty came at a cost: during the changeover between the first and second sets, Osaka had to take a clip to her nails, trimming them mid-match after they began to interfere with her play.

On the court, the first set was a tightly contested battle. Both players held serve until 5-5, when Badosa broke and even held a set point in the following game. But Osaka surged back, saving the set point and forcing a tiebreak, which she dominated 7-1. The opening set lasted 66 minutes.

In the second set, however, the momentum shifted. Osaka struggled to maintain her level as Badosa raced to a 5-0 lead and eventually closed out the set with ease, sending the match into a deciding third set.

Osaka was the first to go up in the decider, 2-0, but Badosa edged three gruelling games in a row for a 5-3 lead and won the thrilling encounter with a spectacular service display in the final game. The scoreline: 6-7(1) 6-1 6-4.
