Tennis icons Andre Agassi and Boris Becker have served up their verdicts on the incredible 2025 French Open final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz clinched a 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2) victory against Sinner after a spell-binding five hours and 29 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
It was the first Grand Slam final meeting between Alcaraz and Sinner and the 12th encounter overall, with the Spaniard now holding a 8-4 advantage over his Italian rival.
Speaking on Eurosport Germany, Becker likened the match to clashes between the legendary trio of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
“What a match, what a drama, what a level! It can’t be explained in words and understood,” the six-time Grand Slam champion declared. “One highlight followed the next. What a match, what a final – what a performance from both players.
“Unbelievable: After fending off three match points, Alcaraz defends his title at Roland Garros – madness.
“It’s brutal for Sinner. Losing a final with match points at 2-0 sets, served for the match. There’s nothing worse, but he can be proud of his performance. He behaved like a champion, fought and played his best clay court match to date. Great.
“That will happen again, maybe Jannik will be the luckier one next time. It was the same with Federer, Djokovic and Nadal. What epic duels they’ve had over 15 years – and that’s exactly the level I see Carlos and Jannik at.

“The match was unbelievable, I feel for both players. These are the matches you train for and why you love this sport.”
Agassi, who presented the trophies after the final, made a case for grass being Alcaraz’s best surface as he compared the 22-year-old star to the Big Three.
“Alcaraz’s best surface to me, shockingly would be between here and Wimbledon,” the eight-time major winner told TNT Sports.
“I’d actually say grass might be his best surface, and the reason why I’d say grass is his best surface has nothing to do with his swings.
“It has to do with the less diminishing speed that happens to him other players. And his strength of legs, his balance of getting under ball.
“I mean, you gotta remember this guy has defence and speed like Novak, if not more. He has feel like Federer, you could argue at times if not more. He has RPMs in pace like Rafa. You could argue maybe even more.
“He has to string that stuff together when he gets out there on the grass and then you bring in that UFO movement stuff.
“I mean his second step is ridiculous, and he believes in it so much he doesn’t peel out defensively when you push him in corners on the slippers.”
