What Carlos Alcaraz’s Wimbledon final win vs Novak Djokovic means for Roger Federer?

Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon final loss to Carlos Alcaraz means that Roger Federer’s all-time record at The Championships stays intact for at least another year as now there may be a real chance of the Serb never tying or overtaking the Swiss tennis icon’s feat of eight titles at The All England Club.

Djokovic, who has been a very dominant force at Wimbledon over the last decade and a half, got dominated by Alcaraz in this year’s Wimbledon final after the Spaniard claimed a 6-2 6-2 7-6 (4) to successfully defend his Wimbledon title.

For 37-year-old Djokovic, this was his second consecutive Wimbledon final loss and again it happened against Alcaraz. While Alcaraz’s performance on Sunday was absolutely impressive, the one from last year’s Wimbledon final wasn’t anything less of impressive since the Spaniard became the first player since 2018 to beat the Serb at The Championships.

Alcaraz’s back-to-back Wimbledon final wins over Djokovic keep Federer’s record intact

After Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios in the 2022 Wimbledon final to improve to 7-8 in his finals at Wimbledon, it appeared that Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles was destined to be leveled or broken by the Serb. And although the 37-year-old has come close to matching Federer’s Wimbledon record in each of the last two years, he still remains at seven Wimbledon titles.

Following this year’s Wimbledon final loss, Djokovic gave credit where credit was due as he acknowledged that Alcaraz was simply the better player.

“He was definitely very hot today. Obviously not the result I wanted. Especially the first few sets. The level of tennis wasn’t up to par from my side. Credit to Carlos. He had it all today. I saved the three match points. I extended the match a bit. But he was an absolutely deserved winner today. Huge congratulations,” Djokovic said of Alcaraz’s performance.
