Iga Swiatek concerns fans with latest move as people wonder what’s happening

Iga Swiatek won’t be defending her China Open title next week as the Polish tennis star is withdrawing from the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing due to “personal reasons.”

Following a US Open quarterfinal outing, the world No. 1 signed up to play in Seoul this week but withdrew just a few days before the start of the tournament. This Friday, the five-time Grand made the same decision on Beijing.

“Due to personal matters, I’m forced to withdraw from the @ChinaOpen in Beijing. I’m very sorry as I had an amazing time playing and winning this tournament last year and was really looking forward to being back there. I know that the fans will experience great tennis there and I’m sorry I won’t be a part of it this time,” she said in a statement provided to the WTA.

Swiatek’s statement concerns fans

Since the Pole’s Seoul participation was confirmed at the start of last week, some were left baffled after she pulled out of the Korea Open just a few days later.

Now that she is also set to miss her second scheduled tournament of the Asian swing and that some personal issues are listed as the reason, some have been left concerned about Swiatek and thinking about what could it possibly be.

Last year, the China Open was very special and memorable for the 23-year-old since she won the title in her tournament debut. Also, it was a very important win because she was coming off a very disappointing US Open run and low on confidence.

But unfortunately, Beijing fans won’t have a chance to see the world No. 1 bid for her second consecutive title at the tournament.

Meanwhile, if Swiatek resolves whatever she is dealing with, she should return to action at the WTA 1000 event in Wuhan, which starts on October 7th.
