Novak Djokovic labeled this year as “one of my worst-performing seasons” but highlighted that he was extremely happy to have won the Paris Olympics.
After reaching all four Grand Slam finals last year and winning three Majors, the Serb was only a finalist at Wimbledon this year – where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz for a second year in a row.
When it comes to remaining Slams, the 37-year-old was a semifinalist at the Australian Open – made the French Open quarterfinal before withdrawing injured – and he also picked up a shock US Open third round exit.
While this was the first season since 2017 during which Djokovic didn’t win a single Major, this was also the year in which the Serb finally accomplished one of his biggest dreams and goals – becoming an Olympic winner. And by doing so, he completed his resume to the fullest and now there isn’t anything lacking.

“Comparing to most of my seasons throughout my career this has been one of the worst-performing seasons in terms of results. But it was going to come at some point where, you know, I wouldn’t win slams and maintain that highest level for so many years in a row. And that’s okay, I’m happy with my gold medal from Olympics, that was the main goal for this year. And of course, I wish that I could have gotten at least a Grand Slam title or won a big title, but it’s fine, it is what it is,” the record 24-time Major winner said following the Shanghai Masters final.

Meanwhile, Djokovic is also without a Masters title in 2024. On Sunday, the former world No. 1 missed out on a chance to win his fifth Shanghai title after Jannik Sinner handed him a 7-6 (4) 6-3 defeat.
Meanwhile, the current world No. 4 is set to play at this week’s 6 Kings Slam in Riyadh. But apart from that, there are no any commitments on Djokovic’s side in the remainder of the year.
