Iga Swiatek strengthens Team Poland in Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Iga Swiatek will play the Billie Jean King Cup Finals set to take place November 13-20 at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga, Spain. The Polish star, who recently dropped from No. 1 to No. 2 in the WTA rankings, shared the exciting news on her Instagram.

After parting ways with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski and bringing Wim Fissette on board, Swiatek voiced her excitement about competing in the team event:

See you in Malaga! I’m happy to announce that I will play in the BJKC Finals. I’m glad that I’ll play for my country and proudly represent Poland. Together with team Poland we will give our best on the court.

The five-time Grand Slam champion, who was not initially included in Dawid Celt’s lineup, will now join forces with Magdalena Frech, Magda Linette, Maja Chwalinska, and Katarzyna Kawa. She boasts a 9-2 win-loss record in Billie Jean King Cup singles matches, with her only two defeats coming back in 2019.

Swiatek’s last appearance on the court was in September at the US Open, where she suffered a quarterfinal defeat to Jessica Pegula. Following that, she opted to skip the Asian Swing.

In addition to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, where Poland will face hosts Spain in the opening tie, Swiatek is set to compete in the WTA Finals in Riyadh earlier in November. This will provide her with a crucial opportunity to reclaim the No. 1 ranking from Aryna Sabalenka. (source: Billie Jean King Cup)
