After 75 months of wait, Olga Danilovic wins a WTA title

Serbia’s Olga Danilovic ended a six-year title drought with a commanding 6-3 6-1 victory over American Caroline Dolehide in the final of the Guangzhou Open, a WTA 250 event in China.

The world No. 86 Danilovic first made waves on the WTA Tour at just 17 years old when she captured her maiden title in Moscow in 2018. However, her promising career was slowed by a prolonged dry spell, with her only other final appearance coming four years later in Lausanne in 2022.

Now, after 75 months of hard work and resilience, the talented Serbian — who hails from a renowned sports family, with a former basketball star father and a sports reporter mother — has claimed her second WTA trophy. Her path to the title was impressive, defeating Erika Andreeva, Diane Parry, Mananchaya Sawangkaew, top seed Katerina Siniakova, and finally, Dolehide. In the final, Danilovic showcased her aggressive style, firing 24 winners compared to Dolehide’s 12.

With this triumph, Danilovic becomes the second Serbian player to win the Guangzhou Open, following in the footsteps of Jelena Jankovic, who won the title nine years ago.
