Thirty-four years after the first time, the Ryder Cup could return to Spain. After the 1997 one at the Valderrama Golf Club in Sotogrande (when Costantino Rocca beat Tiger Woods in the singles), the 2031 Ryder Cup should be played at the Camiral Golf and Wellness (until a few years ago known as PGA Catalunya) in Girona.
Ryder Cup, news
According to rumors, the choice of the Ryder Cup Europe for the assignment of the event could arrive in the next few days and the club of the Irish entrepreneur Denis O’Brien, founder and owner of Digicel, in 2015 included in the list of the 200 richest billionaires in the world, would be the big favorite to host, in 7 years, the super challenge of the green between the Europe team and the USA team. Already in the running to host it in 2022 (the tournament was then postponed to 2023, due to Covid-19), when Spain was beaten by Italy (the record edition was played last year at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club), it now seems close to the finish line. As revealed by a Ten Golf report, “the announcement is expected in the coming days”.
Camiral Golf has been the venue, over the years, of three Spanish Opens and, from 2008 to 2014, of the final phase of the Qualifying School of the DP World Tour (at the time of the facts, European Tour).
The Rules of Golf are a set of rules and standard procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf throughout the world, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association. An expert committee, made up of members of the R&A and the USGA, oversees and refines the Rules every four years. The latest revision was effective January 1, 2016. Changes to the Rules of Golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding of the Rules and those that reduce penalties in certain cases to ensure balance. The rulebook, entitled “The Rules of Golf,” is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy, the Federgolf is responsible for supervising competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
