El último desafío or The Last Challenge is the event that will celebrate Juan Martin Del Potro’s tennis farewell: it will be an exhibition match that the Argentine will play in Buenos Aires against his friend and former rival Novak Djokovic.
Delpo and Nole will play the exhibition match on Sunday 1 December in Buenos Aires. As is known, the two players have an excellent personal friendship: for this reason the 24-time Grand Slam champion will fly to Argentina to experience this festive evening to say goodbye to the 2009 US Open champion, who has been out of the ATP Tour for some time due to an endless series of physical problems.
The Argentine champion recently confessed in a social video in which he recounted all his physical and emotional suffering due to the injuries that have undermined his career. A career in which he has won only one Slam, in New York in 2009, beating Roger Federer in five sets.
“I hope for at least an hour or two to have relief from my pain,” said Del Potro speaking of the challenge.
Nole will land in Argentina today, Friday 29 November, and then in the evening he will take part in the official dinner which Del Potro will also attend. Tomorrow, Saturday 30 November, the 24-time Slam champion will also hold a press conference which is highly anticipated because obviously he will answer questions from the press for the first time about his new collaboration as a coach that he has decided to start with Andy Murray, who will follow him in this off-season phase and from next year in all the main events in which the Serbian tennis player will take part.
On Sunday 1 December the two will take to the court. The match will be played at the Estadio Mary Terán de Weiss in Buenos Aires, which can hold up to 15,500 people. There is currently no television coverage of the event, but a last-minute acquisition of the rights by some broadcaster cannot be ruled out.
