Sinner kicked off last year’s Australian Open as the 4th seed following a great run in the second part of 2023. The Italian was among the favorites and proved that on the court. The 22-year-old struggled a bit in the opening two sets against Botic van de Zandschulp.
Jannik closed that one in straight sets and dominated Jesper de Jong and Sebastian Baez. The young gun faced Karen Khachanov and Andrei Rublev in the following two rounds. He toppled two top-15 players after taking the pivotal points, booking a place in the semi-final.

Things did not get any easier for Sinner, with the ten-time champion Novak Djokovic awaiting in the semi-final. Jannik presented his A-game against the legend and sealed the deal in four sets. The Italian faced no break points and kept the pressure on the other side.
He outplayed Novak in sets one and two and missed a match point in the tie break of the third set. Djokovic extended the battle but fell in the fourth set, propelling Sinner into his first Major final. If you think this was the toughest challenge he could face, you are wrong!

Jannik met Daniil Medvedev in the final and dropped the opening two sets. The young gun turned the tables and prevailed 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, celebrating his first Major crown and kicking off his incredible ride.
“Melbourne is a very special place for me. Many great things started for me there. I’m happy to be here again and will take it day by day. I will play a couple of exhibitions before the Australian Open. I hope they give me a bit of rhythm and that I can raise my level. Winning my first Major trophy was very special, and the fact I’m the defending champion brings nice feelings,” Jannik Sinner said.
