It is clear to golf fans that LIV officials have become serious when it comes to this project, tired of tapping in place. Although LIV leaders aimed to ‘take power’ from the PGA Tour and become the leader of the golf scene, that has not happened.
Namely, the leaders of this Tour made a lot of mistakes on the road covered with thorns, realizing that they had to change something. One of the first steps this year was to remove Greg Norman from the position of CEO, and replace him with Scott O’Neill, a man who has been an important figure on the world scene for years. Norman was one of the main links in this story, fighting and giving his maximum to make LIV the leader on the golf scene.
The biggest change of this Tour, however, many believe, will be the signing of the contract with FOX Sports.
Although LIV officials did not emphasize TV rights, probably considering that it is not an important factor, they made a huge mistake. However, they learned something from that mistake, and managed to sign an annual contract with one of the biggest American television stations.
PGA vs LIV: Who will win?
This will be a great opportunity for the controversial Tour to show its teeth to the PGA Tour, and try to ‘fight eye to eye’ with them. Given that the merger and the final agreement are still far away, judging by the events so far, the race for power in golf world between LIV and the PGA Tour will obviously continue.
The PGA Tour also responded by creating the TGL League, in partnership with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods. The goal of the TGL league is to present technological innovations in the world of golf, and at the same time attract a younger population. Judging by the reactions, the PGA did the right thing, but we will see if they will achieve the final goal.
This rivalry could bring a lot of positives for this sport, although some view their rivalry differently.
