World no. 1 Jannik Sinner extended his winning streak at hard-court Majors. The Italian faced Marcos Giron in the third round of the Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena and scored a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and one minutes.
Marcos received a medial timeout in the third set and could not follow the pace of the world’s best player. Sinner produced reliable numbers behind the first serve and defended the second nicely, defending six of seven break points.
Giron gave away 44% of the points in his games and faced ten break points. The American got broken five times to hit the exit door and end his campaign in the third round.

Jannik attacked and landed 35 winners and 37 unforced errors. It was not his finest performance but he needed nothing more against Marcos. They stayed neck and neck in the mid-range and most extended rallies, while Sinner outplayed his rival in the shortest ones.
The Italian was off to a perfect start, serving well and providing an early break. The American netted a backhand in the second game and fell behind. Jannik produced fine holds in games three and five, forging a 4-1 advantage.

Marcos denied a break point in game six with a beautiful volley winner and held, remaining within one break deficit. Sinner held at love in game seven and served for the opener at 5-3. The Italian denied a break point with a service winner.
He converted the second set point with an ace for 6-3 in 34 minutes. They served well at the beginning of the second set before Giron faced issues at 2-2. The American sprayed a forehand errors, losing serve and falling a set and a break behind.
World no. 1 saved a break point in game six with a booming serve and held for 4-2. Jannik held for 5-3 and served for the set at 5-4. Sinner climbed back from 0-30 and fired a forehand winner for two sets to love lead after an hour and 18 minutes.

The servers lost the ground at the beginning of the third set. Jannik earned a break and saved multiple break points in the next one. Giron denied another break chance in the third game, reducing the gap to 2-1 and making a push on the return in the next one.
He pulled the break back after a loose forehand from world no. 1, locking the result at 2-2. Jannik stayed focused and fired a forehand that forced the rival’s mistake in the fifth game, breaking again and moving 3-2 in front. Marcos received a medical timeout on his left foot and continued.
The Italian fired a winner in the seventh game and converted a break chance after the rival’s mistake to secure another break and move 5-2 in front. Sinner sealed the deal with a service winner, booking a place in the last 16.
