Australian Open LL sensation Eva Lys has to change flight ahead of Iga Swiatek match

Eva Lys has now twice changed her flight date but definitely has no regrets after her run is becoming one of the best stories of this year’s Australian Open.

On Saturday, the German lucky loser defeated Jaqueline Cristian 4-6 6-3 6-3 to make her first round-of-16 of a Grand Slam.

But before all of this happened, the world No. 128 lost to Destanee Aiava in the Australian Open qualifying final round last Wednesday.

After the loss, Lys stayed in Melbourne for a couple of more days, hoping someone would pull out.

And on Monday – one day before her flight – Anna Kalinskaya withdrew.

After replacing the Russian, the 23-year-old re-scheduled her flight to Sunday.

But since she has made the second week of the tournament and will return to the court on Monday, she absolutely won’t be hopping on the plane tomorrow.

Lys: It’s pretty funny but I’m glad we have to change it now

“We actually changed the flight to tomorrow. Right now I think after the press conference we’re going to go and try to change it a little bit further,” the Australian Open sensation said following her win over Cristian.

“It’s actually really funny. We just picked a date. We’re like, ‘Okay, Sunday is six days away. We’re just going to pick Sunday.’ So yeah, it’s actually pretty funny. I’m glad we have to change it now.”

On Monday, Lys will meet five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek.

Ahead of the match, the 23-year-old noted that she “plays tennis for these matches” and also noted that she is excited about the challenge.

“You never know what’s going to happen in the match. I will just try to keep my streak going, try to keep my spirit going. I’m just going to go out and enjoy,” Lys added.
