Danielle Collins hits back at critics with blunt message

Danielle Collins insists she not bothered at all about what some may have to say about her, especially not from “guys living in their basement and writing on the internet.”

This past week, the world No. 11 had an eventful Australian Open campaign before exiting the tournament following a straight-set third-round defeat to Madison Keys.

After getting it with the Melbourne crowd in since-viral scenes, the 31-year-old heard boos as she was entering the court for the Keys match.

However, that was not all as she also dealt with boos during the match but also as she was exiting the court following her defeat.

But after it was all said and done, Collins suggested that it was fine as long as nobody got physically hurt.

“Maybe some feelings got hurt or things were taken personally and they probably shouldn’t have been taken personally by the crowd but, yeah I just feel like people take life way too seriously sometimes,” she said.

Collins: I don’t care what a guy living in his basement is writing on the internet

While the American’s drama with the Australian Open crowd was unfolding, reactions on social media were split – some thought the world No. 11 was treating the crowd exactly how they deserved while some thought the 31-year-old was going too far in her comments.

“I think in our sport, somebody was telling me that the average age of the fans of tennis is like 65 and I think we need to bring some entertainment to the game. And I think can try to make jokes, laugh,” Collins added.

“I don’t have a big ego. I just honestly don’t care what’s written about me. I don’t care what a guy living in his basement is writing on the internet.”

On Thursday, the American tennis star sarcastically thanked the crowd for paying her bills and also making sure she could get herself a five-star vacation.
