Iga Swiatek comments on WADA not appealing her doping case ruling

Iga Swiatek says she can get “a closure” now that the WADA won’t appeal the ITIA’s ruling in her doping case but also underlines that she expected this outcome all along.

While the world No. 2 was on the court playing against Eva Lys at the Australian Open, the WADA announced that they would not lodge an appeal and take her case to the CAS.

In their statement, the organization said that Swiatek’s “contamination explanation was well evidenced” and that “there was no reasonable basis to appeal it to the CAS.”

This means that the five-time Grand Slam champion officially isn’t anymore in danger of getting further suspended – she served a one-month ban during the offseason.

Going into the Australian Open, some wondered if the WADA decision would come during the Happy Slam and if the Pole would get the same fate as Jannik Sinner, who will have his CAS hearing between April 16-17.

Swiatek: I’m just satisfied that I can get a closure

“Well, for sure I’m just satisfied that I can get a closure, kind of, and I can just move on and, like, finish this whole process, because, you know, I just want to play tennis and focus on the tournament,” Swiatek said in her press conference.

“I think anybody who, like, read the documents and know details about the case, they understand. In the locker room, has been also pretty nice. You know, the girls are understanding…

“So yeah, now for sure, I just want to put this behind me because I have already been on tour for quite a few weeks, and it’s all been good. I don’t expect any changes. For sure, I’m happy that people understand.”
