Spain’s Alejandro Del Rey dominated the fourth edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, taking his first win on the DP World Tour with 266 (68 66 66 66, -22) shots on the par 72 Al Hamra GC course in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. The Spaniard left England’s Marcus Armitage, who led the first two rounds, second with 270 (-18), four points behind, and his compatriot David Puig, a member of LIV Golf, seven points behind, third with 273 (-15). In fourth place with 274 (-14) was Australia’s Jason Scrivener and in fifth with 276 (-12) were England’s Joe Dean, Spain’s Ivan Cantero and Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg. In the quintet in eighth place with 277 (-11) the American Patrick Reed, another player of the Arab Super League, and in 27th place with 281 (-7) the Danish Thorbjorn Olesen, who was defending the title.
DP World Tour, results
Andrea Pavan finished in 50th place with 285 (74 68 69 74, -3), having cashed for the third time in the first four tournaments he has participated in this new season.
Alejandro Del Rey Gonzalez, 26 years old from Madrid, whose palmarès also includes a title on the Challenge Tour and one on the Alps Tour, started the final round with a two-shot margin on Armitage that then increased thanks to a 66 (-6, six birdies without bogeys), while the Englishman shot 68 (-4, four birdies without bogeys). The Madrid native holds the fastest lap score on either of the two continental circuits with 58 strokes (Swiss Challenge 2021, Challenge Tour), but his feat still did not allow him to prevail on that occasion. He sealed the 209th victory by an Iberian on the circuit for which he was rewarded with a check for 425,000 dollars on a prize pool of 2,500,000 dollars.
The other two Italians in the race did not make the cut, Guido Migliozzi, 74th with 144 (73 71, par), and Francesco Laporta, 88th with 145 (76 69, +1). And this is all.
