Jannik Sinner king of hard courts, he aims for Roger Federer’s throne

By winning the Australian Open 2025, the Italian champion Jannik Sinner has won his 3rd career Grand Slam title. Three Grand Slam titles all three on hard courts: Australian Open 2024 by beating Daniil Medvedev in the final, US Open 2024 by beating Taylor Fritz in the final; Australian Open 2025 by beating Alexander Zverev in the final.

With this result, the Italian has an open series of 21 consecutive matches won on hard courts. The last defeat of the ATP No.1 in a Major tournament on hard courts was at the US Open 2023, when it was Zverev who beat the Italian tennis player in the round of 16, after five very tough sets.

With his three titles, Australian Open, US Open, Australian Open, Sinner has won 21 straight matches on hard courts: he is the fifth player in the Open era to achieve this result.

He equals John McEnroe, who achieved a hat trick at the US Open from 1979 to 1981, Ivan Lendl who achieved a hat trick at the US Open from 1985 to 1987 and Novak Djokovic, who achieved this feat twice: winning the 2011 Australian Open, the 2011 US Open and the 2012 Australian Open. And a second time from the 2015 Australian Open to the 2016 Australian Open.

Who is at the top of this list? Obviously Roger Federer, who has won 5 consecutive Slams on hard courts, from the 2005 US Open to the 2007 US Open. Roger has a streak that goes from New York 2005 (in Australia that year he lost the semifinal to Marat Safin) to the 2008 Australian Open where he was beaten by Djokovic in the semifinal.

40 consecutive matches won on hard courts in a Slam. Jannik Sinner is currently at 21. The road is still long but the current world number 1 seems to have all the credentials to continue this streak.
