After days of deliberation with all parties involved, the PGA Tour has found a new location for the Genesis Invitational, which the fires that ravaged Los Angeles at the beginning of the year made it inadvisable to play at its usual home, the Riviera Country Club, in Torrey Pines, another Californian gem located in San Diego, five hours by car south of its usual location.

Although Riviera remained untouched by the threat of the flames, all of the city’s resources are now focused on alleviating the consequences of the catastrophe, a situation in which it would have been frivolous to request the necessary presence of security forces at the tournament and to enable the necessary hotel capacity, not to mention the more than probable absence of public that could be expected in a city that is not for pastimes or for welcoming those who can afford them.
Torrey Pines, which is hosting the Farmers Insurance Open this week and has been the scene of two US Opens, will host the circuit for the second time this season from February 13 to 16, and it is hoped that by 2026 normality will be restored at Riviera. In addition, this year’s edition, announced the PGA, will include “a series of charitable initiatives” to help those affected by the fire.
The Rules of Golf are a set of rules and standard procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf throughout the world, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association. An expert committee, made up of members of the R&A and the USGA, oversees and refines the Rules every four years. The latest revision was effective January 1, 2016. Changes to the Rules of Golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding of the Rules and those that reduce penalties in certain cases to ensure balance. The rulebook, entitled “The Rules of Golf,” is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy, the Federgolf is responsible for supervising competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
