Emma Raducanu gets Dubai WC despite poor form, will be joined by this coach

Emma Raducanu is set to play one more tournament during the Middle East swing after the organizers of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai gave her a main draw wildcard.

After starting her season with back-to-back wins, the Briton suffered a brutal 1-6 0-6 Australian Open third-round defeat to Iga Swiatek.

Since then, the former world No. 10 appeared in Singapore, Abu Dhabi and Doha as a wildcard.

Unfortunately for Raducanu, it hasn’t been a great period for her lately since she is currently on a four-match losing streak, with her last loss coming last Sunday after Ekaterina Alexandrova handed her a 6-3 7-5 loss in the Doha first round.

The 22-year-old’s form may not be the best at the moment but the Dubai organizers still came through for her and she is set to make her main draw debut at the tournament.

Raducanu set to be accompanied by a childhood coach

In Dubai, the Briton – who split with Nick Cavaday after the Australian Open – will be joined by Jane O’Donoghue, a former coach at the LTA.

While O’Donoghue has never been Raducanu’s official coach, she has been kind of mentoring the 22-year-old for years.

Meanwhile, the 2021 US Open champion said in Abu Dhabi that she wouldn’t rush with finding a new full-time coach.

“I think that’s why I haven’t necessarily jumped into something straight away, because I want to make sure it’s a right fit,” she said earlier this month.

“So I think I’m using this time period to just figure out what I really value. I’m not too sure yet right now. I haven’t come to any plans or decisions. So yeah, I’m just taking it, using the next couple weeks to see how I feel, and then make a decision.”
