Scottie Scheffler after solid first round: “I felt like I swung it better”

Scottie Scheffler wants to make history again this year, but he is aware that he faces a tough challenge. Having a dream season once again is an unrealistic scenario for many, but not for him. Scheffler firmly believes that he can repeat the results, or even break the previous records.

The 28-year-old has a chance to do so right from the start, competing at the Genesis Invitational in San Diego. Although the weather conditions are far from ideal, the American is motivated to conquer the competition, but can he succeed? Scheffler is in a tie for fourth after the first round.

At the press conference, Scottie shared his emotions about the first day, feeling positive about his swing.

“I felt like I swung it better than I have the last couple of weeks. Typically, If you look at last year, if I was to have results like I did, you would have seen something with my putting, I think. If I wasn’t competing last year, it was typically because of my putting and the last two weeks, I felt like it was odd in the sense that I wasn’t driving it very well,” Scheffler said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.

Scottie Scheffler: I think it was a good building day

The first day was not disappointing for him, putting emphasis on iron shots and putts. Scheffler has the impression that he can make a big result in this tournament. The following days will give us the answer to the question: Can he win immediately? This is an exciting tournament that used to bring amazing moments in the past.

“So today, I felt like I drove it a little bit better. I definitely hit some better iron shots, and I continued to putt nicely. So overall, I think it was a good building day, and hopefully, as the week goes on, I’ll continue to kind of improve my swing feels.”- he concluded.
