Phil Mickelson offers apology for recent remarks, plans time away from golf

Phil Mickelson caused quite a storm last year after comments regarding LIV Golf and the Saudis. Mickelson did not mince words when criticizing the Saudis, who believe that it is a regime that does not respect human rights. Mickelson also used some offensive words, all of which were later used against him.

Mickelson has been in the spotlight since Thursday, after his statements to Alan Shipnuck came to light. Namely, in addition to the criticism of LIV, Mickelson stressed that this is a great opportunity to reshape the way the PGA Tour works. This did not exactly produce positive reactions from either the golfers or the fans.

However, Phil is known as a person who sometimes does not choose his words, and not long after everything, the experienced golfer decided to apologize:

“I used words I sincerely regret that do not reflect my true feelings or intentions. It was reckless, I offended people, and I am deeply sorry for my choice of words. I’m beyond disappointed and will make every effort to self-reflect and learn from this.”-Mickelson said, as quoted by The Guam Daily Post.

Phil Mickelson: The specific people I have worked with are visionaries

Phil Mickelson did not forget to praise LIV Golf Investments, impressed with their work so far. Cooperation with well-known people of the golf scene and LIV leaders is an experience that Mickelson cannot forget.

Frustrated by the happenings on the golf scene, Phil realized that LIV could be the initiator of certain changes, with an opportunity to reshape golf in the coming years.

“The specific people I have worked with are visionaries and have only been supportive. More importantly they passionately love golf and share my drive to make the game better.”-he wrote.

Although he knew that his moves would attract criticism, the experienced figure in the sport wanted to get involved in this project, venture into ‘cold waters’, and try to help golf get back on its feet. The question is how successful he was in doing so.

However, a few years ago, he sent a clear message that surprised some:

“I know I have not been my best, and desperately need some time away to prioritize the ones I love most and work on being the man I want to be.”
