ATP Dubai: Daniil Medvedev tames Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard

Daniil Medvedev is through to the last eight in Dubai. The 2023 champion of the ATP 500 event faced Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the second round and earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory in an hour and 22 minutes. It was a match with a striking diversity!

The top-10 player tamed his strokes nicely and hit 12 winners and five unforced errors. The Frenchman attacked and fired 22 winners, only at a cost of 44 unforced mistakes, missing equally from both wings. Giovanni hit three service winners more than Daniil.

However, the former champion took charge from the baseline and forged a 38-11 buffer! The attacking youngster rushed to the net 29 times and claimed 19 points, 15 more than the baseline master! However, it was not enough to keep him in contention.

Daniil served at only 50% and still claimed 16 points more than his opponent. The Russian dropped one point behind the first serve and kept his rival away from break chances. Mpetshi Perricard sprayed six double faults and lost 39% of the points in his games.

The young gun played against ten break chances, defending eight but hitting the exit door. The Frenchman hit a loose forehand in the first game of the duel and experienced two break points. He denied them with service winners and held with another to avoid an early setback.
