Tomas Machac is an ATP champion at 24! The Czech lifted the ATP 500 trophy in Acapulco following a 7-6, 6-2 triumph over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in an hour and 37 minutes. With 500 ATP points on his tally, Tomas will crack the top-20 on Monday.
The Czech produced incredible numbers behind the first serve. He denied the only break points and kept the pressure on the other side. Davidovich Fokina stayed in touch in the opening set and wasted a set point at 6-5 in the tie break.
He lost the ground in the second set and experienced a double break to finish runner-up.

Tomas fired 29 winners and 20 unforced errors. Alejandro landed 20 winners and 31 mistakes and stayed in touch with his opponent from the baseline. However, Machac made a massive difference in service winners. The younger player forged a 29-8 advantage and earned the win in that segment.
The encounter started with rock-solid serving, with six games completed in 18 minutes. Machac landed an ace in game nine for 5-4, and Davidovich Fokina responded with a forehand winner in the next one for 5-5 and more drama.

The Spaniard closed the 12th game after deuces and introduced a tie break. Tomas landed a return winner in the seventh game for 4-3 before losing a point on serve in the next one. Alejandro drew the rival’s error at 5-5 and generated a set point.
The Czech denied it with a service winner and welcomed the rival’s mistake for 7-6. Davidovich Fokina placed a backhand long on the set point, allowing his rival to clinch the opener in 54 minutes. Both players wasted a break point at the beginning of the second set.

Machac stepped in on the return in game five and Davidovich Fokina’s mistake, moving 3-2 up and closer to the finish line. He held for 4-2 and made another push on the return in the next one. Alejandro wasted a 30-0 lead and netted a routine forehand to face a break point.
He sent a backhand wide and propelled his opponent 5-2 in front. Tomas served for his first ATP title in game eight and landed a service winner for three match points. The Czech converted the second after the Spaniard’s backhand error, falling to the ground and celebrating his first ATP title.
