Elvis Smylie shares his joy for Ryan Peake’s victory and British Open qualification

Ryan Peake is making headlines in golf magazines after winning the New Zealand Open. The 31-year-old golfer, once a member of a motorcycle group that is labeled as criminal, managed to win to the surprise of everyone present. Peake will perform at the British Open.

However, in addition to the Australian, one more of his compatriots could play in this tournament.

Elvis Smylie, if he wins the title in the AustralasianTour Order of Merit (OOM) for 2024-25, and everything says that it will be so, will also play with him at the Open.

In an interview with the media, Smylie admitted that he is happy for Peakey, stressing that he had a chance to spend time with him, believing that the 31-year-old deserved this chance.

“I’m just so happy for Peakey, he’s such a hard worker,” said Smylie, as quoted by AAP.

“I’ve spent a bit of time with him and it’s really cool to see him get over the line.

It couldn’t have happened to a nicer bloke.”

Ritchie Smith

Interestingly, both have the same mentor: Ritchie Smith. Smjylie revealed that they often train together.

It is clear that the two know each other well, even though Elvis is a very young golfer who will have a great chance to become a star of the sport.

“We share pre-seasons at the start of the year in January,” Smylie said.

“All of the squad that Ritchie coaches is in Perth and we get to practise and train with each other, so those are the times we spend some time together in addition to being on tour.”

It will be interesting to see where things go and what we can really expect from both Elvis and Peake. Australian golf has been waiting a long time for talented golfers like them, although it is clear that they already have several quality golfers on LIV Golf and the PGA Tour.
