Alexander Zverev harshly rips Ivan Lendl: the reasons

In a recent interview with Tennis Magazine, Alexander Zverev confessed to having had problems with Juan Carlos Ferrero and Ivan Lendl. In particular with the 8-time Grand Slam champion, with whom there were several disagreements. In 2019, in fact, their working relationship ended abruptly.

“He can become strong, but his problems off the court do not allow him to work according to my philosophy,” explained the former tennis player.

Zverev explained new behind-the-scenes details about their working relationship, which never blossomed, analyzing: “He had gotten a new dog and showed him how to go to the bathroom: this was his main interest. And golf.”

The words addressed to Boris Becker were decidedly different. The 2024 French Open finalist did not rule out a possible collaboration with the winner of 6 Grand Slam tournaments for the future.

“I love Boris Becker and I also think he has an incredible knowledge of tennis. But I don’t know how he travels. That’s the only thing that raises a question mark for me about him. Once he has resolved and clarified the issue, we can talk about it. We are in contact with him and we speak often. For now for Australia everything will remain as it is and then we’ll see,” Zverev explained.

The German was the only one this season to interfere in the duopoly of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Although the German failed to bring home the much-desired first Slam of his career, he managed to oust the Spaniard from the second position in the ATP world ranking. And like I said above, the Hamburg-born tennis player has not always had idyllic relations with his coaches.

Zverev will be one of the most anticipated players for the upcoming tennis season, which will start in a few days, at the end of December: the highlight of the first part will obviously be the Australian Open, where there will be the long-awaited comeback of Novak Djokovic with his new coach (friend and former rival) Andy Murray.
