Alexander Zverev sweeps Ugo Humbert, wins Paris Masters title

Alexander Zverev claimed his seventh Masters 1000 title in Paris! World no. 3 faced the home star Ugo Humbert in the title clash and scored a dominant 6-2, 6-2 triumph in an hour and 15 minutes, becoming the eighth player with seven Masters 1000 shields. Humbert played rock-solid tennis en route to his first final at this level, becoming the first home finalist in Paris since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2011. However, he could not match Zverev’s level, struggling on serve and return and cracking under pressure in front of the partisan crowd.

Alexander’s impressive digits

World no. 3 produced incredible numbers behind the initial shot, one of the most impressive in the Masters 1000 finals! Zverev dropped five points in eight games, avoiding break points and mounting the pressure on the other side. Humbert could not follow that pace and stay competitive, serving at 52% and losing half of the points in his games. Alexander pushed hard in the return games, generating six break points and seizing four to control the scoreboard and sail over the top. The German had the upper hand in the shortest, mid-range and most advanced exchanges, taming his strokes nicely and emerging as a deserved champion.

Zverev kicks off the action in an intense style

World no. 3 lost one point on serve in the opening set, keeping the pressure on his opponent and delivering two breaks for a massive lead. Alexander closed the second game at love and made a push on the return in the next one. He created a break chance after the rival’s loose forehand and welcomed another to grab an early break and move in front. With nothing working his way, Ugo faced more issues behind the initial shot in the fifth game. He netted a routine forehand on the third, losing serve for the second time and falling 4-1 behind. Alexander produced a hold at love with a service winner for 5-1 and mirrored that two games later, winning the opener 6-2 in 36 minutes.

It is the same old story in the second set as Alexander sails over the top

Carried by this boost, Zverev provided four comfortable holds in the second set, mounting the pressure on the home star. Crumbling under pressure, a left-hander netted a forehand in the first game, falling a set and a break behind. Humbert played another loose service game at 0-2, netting a backhand and ending his hopes of lifting the trophy. Alexander served well in games four, six and eight, landing a winner at the net at 5-2 and celebrating his seventh title at the premium ATP level.
