Alexander Zverev was very sad and heartbroken after the final of the 2025 Australian Open, in which he was defeated by Jannik Sinner quite clearly. The world number 2 never gave the feeling of being able to put the Italian ace in difficulty, who controlled the match from start to finish and prevailed in three sets without conceding even a break point to his opponent.
Despite making clear progresses in recent months, the German champion has shown that he is still far from the current leader of the men’s tour, especially on the hard courts. During the press conference, the player from Hamburg admitted that Jannik outclassed him and that he was better than him in all aspects of the game.
Sascha – who became the sixth player in tennis history to lose his first three Grand Slam finals – will have to fight back after this painful defeat and find the strength to work even harder ahead of the French Open.
Sascha was very sad and heartbroken
With huge sincerity, the German ace confided that he does not want to end his career as the best player to have never won a Major title.
Speaking on Eurosport, former world No.1 Justine Henin reflected on Sascha’s attitude during the AO final: “From the first point, Sinner played with great confidence and showed his opponent that he was in great shape. The Italian made the difference from a tactical point of view, highlighting the German’s current weaknesses.”
The former Belgian champion continued: “Sascha was very nervous during the match and that didn’t help him get through the difficult moments. Already in the first set Zverev realized that he did not have the weapons to compete against this version of Sinner and his feelings became more and more negative. That’s why he was so heartbroken at the end of the match.”
Alexander’s run at the 2025 AO is still very positive and it is from here that the German champion will have to start again.
