Anastasia Potapova says some players who complain are ‘too soft and spoiled’

Anastasia Potapova thinks some players have become “too soft and spoiled” as the world No. 32 suggests some of her colleagues should be more grateful for the job they are working and the life they are living.

It is not a secret that ATP and WTA players – including some of the best in the game – have been very vocal about the tennis calendar but also the constant change of the balls and some other stuff.

Potapova, who is 23 and has been around the Tour for several years now, was a guest on the latest episode of Bolshe! .

At one point during her conversation with Sofya Tartakova, the two-time WTA champion was asked if she had any thoughts about some of the popular complaints made by players.

Potapova: I also had moments when I wasn’t happy, but then I realized that life is wonderful

“I think that some players have become too soft and spoiled. There are things that make the tour more difficult,” the Russian tennis star told Tartakova.

“I also had moments when I wasn’t happy with my life, when I felt like I couldn’t stay on tour anymore.

“But then you remember where you started. And you’re like ‘Yeah… my life is wonderful.’ I think sometimes you forget where you came from. We really live in our own world, and it really is tough at times.

“But any professional sport is tough. It requires a lot of work, sacrifice… it’s a lot of pressure. Both mental and physical, it’s tough. But that’s not the worst life a person can have.”

When it comes to scheduling complaints, players often argue that tennis is the only sport with such a long calendar and that it negatively impacts the quality of the sport.

When it comes to the complaints made about the balls used on the Tour, some claim that constantly changing the balls leads to frequent injuries.

But despite the criticism, the ATP and the WTA haven’t shown much willingness to make any big changes in those departments.
