Andreescu’s finally back on court – watch her in Rouen!

Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu is set to make her long-awaited return to competition at the 2025 Open Capfinances Rouen Metropole. After a six-month hiatus, the Canadian will finally kick off her season on Tuesday in France.

Andreescu, who had been sidelined for nearly a year between 2023 and 2024 due to a lingering back injury, last competed in October 2024 at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, where she reached the quarterfinals.

The former world No. 4 was forced to withdraw from the ASB Classic in Auckland citing “personal reasons,” and it was later confirmed she would also miss the Australian Open for the second consecutive year.

She then targeted a return at the Merida Open in Mexico in February, but those plans were derailed by an unexpected emergency appendectomy. “The surgery went smoothly, and I’m on the road to recovery,” Andreescu shared at the time. “My plan is to be back on the court for the clay season, stronger than ever.”

Now she’s finally ready to launch her 2025 season at the Open Capfinances Rouen Metropole, a WTA 250 event held from April 14 to 20, 2025 in Rouen, France. The tournament features a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw, played on indoor clay courts.

Andreescu enters the tournament ranked No. 130 in the world and will open her campaign in Rouen against Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands on Tuesday. Lamens, currently ranked No. 70, secured a standout victory over British No. 1 Katie Boulter in Billie Jean King Cup action over the weekend.
