Andrey Rublev surprised fans at the Paris Rolex Masters media day, sharing some pretty interesting thoughts about his analysis of his rivals and checking the ATP ranking before challenging his opponents. The fight to access the Nitto ATP Finals is not only exciting fans, but also the tennis players involved who are hoping to reach the Turin event reserved for the best eight in the world.
“During the year I barely check the ranking or watch tennis, but for weeks I have been constantly analyzing what can happen, seeing who my rivals are playing and things like that. It’s stressful but it’s part of the sport. In any case, the players who can deprive me of being in Turin are magnificent people. If I don’t qualify, I will be happy for them,” explained the Russian.
Rublev is constantly monitoring the ATP Race, which guarantees the top 8 to play the Finals from November 10 to 17. The 27-year-old is currently eighth and must obviously watch his back, as does Casper Ruud, 7th and not so far from the Russian. The number one danger for him is Alex de Minaur, less than 200 points away and recovering from his injury with the semifinal reached at the ATP 500 in Vienna. Further back are Grigor Dimitrov, who however reached the final last year in Bercy, and Tommy Paul. The competition in Paris will almost be decisive for the stakes.
