Andy Roddick analyzed what his countryman Taylor Fritz would need to beat Jannik Sinner, in the latest episode of his podcast Served with.
Many hopes of American tennis are placed on Fritz, busy these days with the United States in the United Cup in Perth and Sydney, to return to winning a Grand Slam title in men’s singles. A title that has been missing since the 2003 US Open won by Roddick himself.
The former world number 1 – speaking of the 2024 US Open finalist – highlighted that he has indisputably made extraordinary improvements, he has reached his best ranking, he has won ATP titles, he has reached the final of the US Open and the ATP Finals but there is still a question mark and a problem to solve.

“The guy is a hard worker, he plays wherever he can, he never wants to take weeks off and tennis is his priority. I like the way he talks about where he would like to be. He doesn’t hold back.
The question I ask myself is – speaking of the two finals he clearly lost against Jannik Sinner at the US Open and then at the ATP Finals in Turin – what can he do to change tactics against the world number 1?
He is not a player who can create drop shots or slices or generate the speed of a Carlos Alcaraz. Taylor will never be the best player in the world in terms of movement on the court even if he has improved a lot. And he is not even a Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard-type server.
He has a great serve but in my opinion if he wants to have a chance in the Slams he needs to work on his second serve because Sinner can handle it without problems. On a general level he has improved in every area, he must make the necessary adjustments against Jannik because I think today is the worst match for Taylor Fritz,” analyzed Roddick.
