Andy Roddick, in the latest episode of his podcast Served With, aired after Jannik Sinner’s success over Alex de Minaur at the Australian Open 2025 quarterfinals, talked about the match and analyzed the semifinal challenge that the Italian will play against Ben Shelton, who eliminated Lorenzo Sonego in the quarterfinals.
The former US tennis player, former US Open winner and former ATP No.1 talked about what the young American tennis player has to do to be able to beat the ATP number 1 and reach the final at the Australian Open.
“Ben has to take big risks repeatedly in the match if he wants to have a chance of causing problems for the world number 1. Sinner will try to insist repeatedly on Shelton’s backhand. Ben has to try to keep the points short and, at times, take risks when he sees the opportunity to be aggressive. That’s the only way he can win,” he explained.

Roddick also paid Sinner a big compliment after his quarterfinal win over Alex de Minaur, saying, “The Italian’s recent performances are elevating him to the level of all-time greats in tennis.”
The former American legend explained how difficult it is to play against Sinner when he’s in the kind of form he showed against de Minaur.
“That doesn’t mean the Australian isn’t a great player. You see a lot of people commenting after this match and saying it’s easy for Sinner. There are also people saying about de Minaur that this guy sucks. Incomprehensible. He’s the world No. 8 in a global sport and he’s at his best. He’s a good fighter and athlete, he’s really smart. The problem is that he has no chance in this particular match,” he analyzed.Andy Roddick says what Ben Shelton has to do to beat Jannik Sinner
