Andy Roddick shares deep analysis on Holger Rune’s drop

Andy Roddick, in the latest episode of his podcast Served with – a podcast in which he deals with all the topics of our beloved tennis – offered his fans a deep analysis on Holger Rune, expected by many media, insiders and fans at the highest levels, but who at the moment is struggling a lot to reach. 2024 has been a year of crisis for the young Dane, during which he has never managed to express his best tennis.

This week too, Holger was eliminated in his first match in a tournament, by Jiri Lehecka in the ATP 250 Brisbane International tournament.

Roddick gave his interpretation of the situation, focusing on why the Dane has not yet managed to reach the level of his two rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

“While Alcaraz and Sinner are on their way to becoming great players, Holger is still trying to find a coach with whom he can maintain a relationship for more than four or five months and identify himself as a player,” he said.

The American legend stressed that both Sinner and Alcaraz have an identity and a certain stability in the relationship with their respective teams. The former American tennis player talked at length about the career of the Dane who has changed coaches several times in recent times, considering how it didn’t go well even with Patrick Mouratoglou – who now coaches Naomi Osaka – with whom he worked on several occasions.

“We have the impression that he plays defense sometimes, offense sometimes. It seems that sometimes he turns to his corner for advice. Jim Courier said recently that the strategy changes day by day and he is right. The point for me is that there is so much raw potential that obviously needs to be shaped, that there is a lack of organization and management of this potential. He has beaten the best players in the world. He has also beaten Novak Djokovic, so there is a lot to appreciate in Holger Rune, but he still lacks a lot of consistency,” he added.
