Anna Kalinskaya personally decided to shut down a rumor that appeared in Italian media as the Russian tennis star called “fake news” on reports of Jannik Sinner asking her to marry him.
During the weekend, an Italian paper dropped a huge rumor, indicating that the recent US Open champion may have proposed the 25-year-old WTA star during his run in New York.
To no one’s surprise, the news quickly became big within Italian media and it didn’t take long before international media also picked it up.
But according to world No. 14 Kalinskaya, that was nothing other than an attempt to gain some clicks.
“To clarify things about fake rumors: this is not true (laughing emoji),” the 25-year-old wrote on her Instagram Story.

Kalinskaya supported Sinner at the US Open
Although the Russian’s run at Flushing Meadows ended relatively early since she lost in the third round, she stayed in New York to support her boyfriend. Moments after the ATP world No. 1 sealed a win over Taylor Fritz to improve to two Grand Slams, he and his girlfriend shared a kiss on the court.

Since Sinner is known as a private person, that public came as a bit of a surprise and one Italian journalist tried to ask him about that.
“Jannik, forgive me for asking this. Italians want to know the first name of your aunt to whom you dedicated your victory. And then, you are aware that the whole world saw the kiss, are you happy about that?” the Italian was asked after the US Open.
Sinner responded: “I don’t want to answer one or the other. It’s a family thing.”
Meanwhile, the two tennis stars officially confirmed their relationship in May.
“As you know, I don’t like to talk about my private life. I’m with Anna yes. But we keep everything very private. You know me: I won’t talk more than that,” Sinner said at the French Open.
