Ashleigh Barty announces second pregnancy through Christmas post

Ashleigh Barty had some big news to share on Christmas as the Australian tennis legend is pregnant with her second child.

The former three-time Grand Slam champion, who shockingly retired from pro tennis at the age of 25 in early 2022, got married to golfer Garry Kissick shortly after walking away from pro tennis.

Also, it didn’t take long before Barty announced her first pregnancy and delivered her first baby in mid-2023.

Now, the 28-year-old and her husband are set to add a new member to their family.

“Merry Christmas from our growing family to yours!” the couple wrote in a joint Instagram post.

Barty described motherhood as “the hardest thing I have done’

When the former world No. 1 stunningly retired in 2022 March, she noted that she wanted to give herself to some other things in life – and that included starting a family.

And in 2023 July, she became a mother after baby boy Hayden was born.

In early 2024, Barty came to the Australian Open as a guest. When speaking to reporters, she also candidly addressed motherhood.

“He’s [Hayden] been a very good boy, very kind to me as I’m learning. It’s amazing how quickly it’s all gone, how much my life has changed but how natural it all feels. It’s hard – the hardest thing I’ve ever done – but it’s incredible, too. An amazing thing. And it’s probably helped me appreciate my own mother, and my two sisters as well, in how they’re raising their own children,” Barty told The Sydney Morning Herald.

Meanwhile, the 2022 Australian Open winner is set to be a part of next week’s Brisbane International and stage a charity match there through her foundation.

After Brisbane, Barty is also expected to return to the Australian Open as a guest again.
