ATP ace reveals why it’s so hard to defeat Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner’s level in the last year is really scary and no one seems to be able to counter him, especially on the fastest surfaces. The world number 1 has totaled numerous impressive goals in the last twelve months, climbing to the top of the ATP rankings and creating a sidereal margin compared to all his opponents.

From January 2024 to date, the Italian champion has won eight titles and lost only six matches to become the undisputed leader of the men’s tour. The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria will have the chance to win his third Grand Slam title tomorrow, when he faces Sascha Zverev in the final of the 2025 Australian Open.

Sinner impresses

In this edition of the Happy Slam, Jannik did not play his best tennis right from the start but he used the first rounds to gain confidence and to try new solutions. The 2-time Grand Slam champion took some risks during his round of 16 match against Rune, when he felt unwell between the second and third sets before reacting to prevail over his opponent.

His performances in the quarterfinals and semifinals were bordering on perfection, despite Alex de Minaur and especially Ben Shelton doing everything possible to put him in trouble. The American ace had two set points in the first set, but he didn’t take advantage of those chances and was demolished in the second and third sets.

During his press conference, the current world number 20 explained what makes it so hard to face Sinner right now: “I don’t think many people would probably argue that Jannik is striking the ball the best in the world right now, somehow that’s very difficult to deal with.

You get a good rhythm. He is hitting it clean off both sides, hitting it deep, there’s a lot of pace on a lot of balls.”

The last obstacle on the run of the Italian ace is Zverev, who will try to win the first Major title of his career after two lost finals.
