World no. 3 Carlos Alcaraz is safely through to his fourth consecutive Indian Wells quarter-final. The 21-year-old faced Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round and produced a convincing 6-1, 6-1 triumph in an hour and 14 minutes.
Thus, Alcaraz earned his 15th consecutive victory in the desert, moving closer to Novak Djokovic’s record. The Bulgarian battled against Gael Monfils for three hours in the previous round. He could not do much against the two-time defending champion, though.
The Spaniard took charge on serve and return and brought the win home in no time. The favorite took 27 points more than his opponent. Carlos served at 75% and dropped ten points in seven service games.

He denied three break points in the closing stages of the duel and kept the pressure on the other side. Grigor served at 54% and plagued his chances. The more experienced player dropped 56% of the points in his games and played against 14 break points.
He defended nine, but Alcaraz seized five to control the scoreboard and sail over the top. Carlos landed 20 winners and 14 unforced errors. He welcomed 28 mistakes from his opponent, mostly from his backhand. Alcaraz fired 15 service winners and built a massive 38-17 advantage from the baseline.

World no. 3 had the upper hand in the shortest, mid-range and most advanced rallies to bring the victory home in no time. Grigor wasted a game point in the first game of the duel and netted a forehand to experience an early break.
The Spaniard landed an ace in the second game, holding at love and cementing the advantage. Alcaraz missed a break chance in the third game, bringing his rival to the scoreboard. The young gun grabbed the fourth game with a service winner.

He clinched a break at 15 in the next one after the rival’s double fault and made another push on the return at 5-1 from 40-15 down. Carlos seized the second set point, wrapping up the opener 6-1 in 38 minutes and gaining confidence.
Grigor denied two break points early in the second set and faced more issues in the fourth game. He sprayed a backhand error and fell a set and a break behind. Alcaraz played his only loose service game at 3-1, offering his rival three break chances.

The Spaniard saved them and held with a service winner for 4-1. The defending champion passed his rival at the net in the sixth game and generated two break points. Dimitrov missed a backhand on the second, falling 5-1 behind.
Carlos served for the win in game seven and landed an ace for match points. He cracked a forehand down the line winner on the first, sealing the deal in style and moving into the last eight.
