ATP Indian Wells: Jack Draper tops Taylor Fritz

Jack Draper is through to his first Indian Wells quarter-final. The 23-year-old faced the former champion Taylor Fritz in the fourth round and scored a rock-solid 7-5, 6-4 victory in an hour and 18 minutes.

The 13th seed claimed seven straight games from 4-5 in the opening set to break the rival’s resistance and remain on the title course. Draper dominated with his first serve, taking 32 of 35 points! He faced one break point after already building a massive advantage.

Taylor served at 70% but dropped 33% of the points in his games. The home player faced four break points and suffered three consecutive breaks to hit the exit door.

Draper landed 24 winners and 17 unforced errors. Fritz remained on a 19-19 ratio, raising his level a bit when it was already too late to turn the tables. Jack took an 18-16 lead in service winners and claimed six points more from the baseline.

Nothing separated them in the mid-range and most advanced rallies. The Briton took charge in the shortest exchanges and earned his win in that segment. They provided ten comfortable holds at the beginning of the encounter.
