Top-ranked Australian male tennis player Alex de Minaur says he is happy to see Nick Kyrgios returning to action and he is wishing nothing but the best to his fellow compatriot.
In late November, the Brisbane International announced that their 2018 champion signed up for the upcoming tournament edition. And when the former world No. 13 takes to the court in Brisbane, it will be his first appearance on the Tour since 2023 June.
In late 2022, Kyrgios sustained a knee injury during the offseason and he surgically repaired the damage in 2023 January. A couple of months later, he suffered a very serious wrist injury and found himself going under the knife after just one match played on the grass courts of Stuttgart.
De Minaur addresses Kyrgios’ return
“I think everyone in the whole tennis world is looking forward to having him back. He’s obviously an incredible talent and has done some great things in the sport, so I’m sure the whole tennis world will be very excited to watch him play and compete again. He’s been getting back from rehab, trying to do his best. I’ve seen he’s starting in Brisbane, so I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of eyeballs on that,” the world No. 9 told Eurosport.

While Kyrgios was sidelined, de Minaur established himself as the best Australian player, breaking into the top-10 for the first time in his career and also making his first ATP Finals appearance.
Ahead of his comeback, the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up has underlined several times that he is returning to win a Grand Slam. And if he does manage to replicate his form from 2022, the 29-year-old could possibly return to being the highest-ranked player from his country in 2025.
If everything goes well in Brisbane, Kyrgios will also play the Australian Open – that would be his first Grand Slam appearance since the 2022 US Open.
