Billy Horschel showed his qualities in the right way, being the key to the success of his team, Atlanta Drive GC. His team celebrated in the TGL final, making a great comeback after losing 3-0.
Although Billy emphasized victory at the end of the tournament, being delighted with this success, the experienced golfer couldn’t help but to call out Kyle Porter, a well-known golf journalist.
Before the final, Porter referred to the duel between Horschel and Fowler on the 11th and 14th holes, predicting that Fowler would win in that round, which ultimately did not happen.
“This is a fun matchup. Fowler is second in the league in strokes gained ball-striking this year, behind only Wyndham Clark (who I believe is the league MVP).
Nobody won more Singles points than Horschel in the regular season (8), but I’ll roll with Rickie, who was excellent in the Semifinal.”- he wrote.
Billy Horschel reacted
Horschel was obviously most motivated to win because of Kyle’s predictions. In moments when someone doubts you, then you get even more strength and motivation to celebrate.
An experienced golfer just used a certain amount of anger to defeat his opponent.
Horschel couldn’t help but send a message to Porter, saying that this journalist had been targeting him all year. Billy admitted that he wanted to prove them wrong, and what better way than to win the TGL final round.
“I love going head-to-head with someone; it’s who is willing to do whatever it takes to get the victory. Then there’s a guy by the name of Kyle Porter, who has picked against me the entire year in the singles portion.
Up until last week, I had won every one of them. Obviously, Min Woo [Lee] made a putt the second time we played at hole number 14 to beat me but yeah, I’m very well aware when people are picking against me.
I want to prove them wrong, and I want to beat the person I’m going against as badly as ever at that moment. So, Kyle Porter, please pick against me tomorrow.”- he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.
