There is not much left until the start of the new edition of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, USA. After the defeat by the Europeans, the US team is motivated to avenge their defeat in Rome, aiming for victory at this year’s edition.
Playing on home soil will be a huge advantage for the USA team, given that the history of this competition has taught us that.
Having the home crowd on your side is certainly a big wind at your back, but some are not sure that the US team can dominate this competition.
Brandel Chamblee, a well-known commentator and analyst, as a guest on the Sky Sports Golf podcast, pointed out that Bethpage Black could be a challenge for US golfers.
“I think the United States has a dilemma,” Chamblee said.
“The United States has always had the advantage of hitting it miles and all over the place, but being great iron players and scramblers, so they set up the golf course at home that way.”
Brandel Chamblee is worried
Chamblee believes that US golfers are quite similar to European ones, which was not the case in the past. Although the US course used to be an advantage for them, it seems that this time things might look different.
“Over the last few years, the US players have become more control players. They’re more like the European players, so that same course set up will not be the advantage it’s been in the past for the US, I would argue.”- he continued.
An experienced figure of the golf scene is not sure how they will set the golf course up, which produces various dilemmas and questions regarding this year’s edition.
“How are they going to set that golf course up? Are they going to set it up, you know, long and wrong, or are they going to set it up more like Europe sets it up, because that’s more to their strength at this point?”- he concluded.
Brandel continues, stressing that he is very curious to see how they will set up that golf course. He has no doubt that this year’s edition could be a real spectacle for everyone, especially when we know how strong both teams are. On both sides we have quality golfers hungry for success, given that this is a competition that carries great importance for everyone.
