Breaking: Novak Djokovic teams up with Nick Kyrgios!

It finally happens! Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios will crown their great friendship by playing alongside each other at the ATP 250 event in Brisbane in the first week of 2024! Two rivals could meet in the singles draw, but they decided to join forces and seek doubles success.

Novak has not played since the Shanghai Masters. He withdrew from the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals and ended his season earlier. The Serb enjoyed his time off the court and recharged his batteries ahead of 2025, seeking more Major titles in the upcoming season.

Djokovic added his great friend and former rival, Andy Murray, to his coaching staff, seeking new ideas and challenges after conquering the Olympic Games in Paris in August. Novak will turn his focus back to Majors in 2025 and challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Novak returns to Brisbane for the first time in 16 years. He debuted at the event in 2009 and fell to Ernests Gulbis in the first match. The Serb will chase a deeper run in the first week of the new season, setting his eyes on the milestone 100th ATP title.

Nick Kyrgios picked Brisbane as his first tournament in a year and a half! The Aussie has been struggling with injuries for a couple of years, playing one match in 26 months. Nick reached his first Major final at Wimbledon two years ago, with Novak standing on the other side of the net.

The Aussie claimed the opening set before the Serb took charge and sealed the deal in four sets, lifting his seventh Wimbledon crown. They became great friends after early feuds, mainly from Nick’s side. The Wimbledon final was a crown of their newly established friendship.

Playing the doubles together was the next step, but Kyrgios’ injuries ruined their plans. The Aussie is ready to play competitive tennis again in 2025 and wanted to team up with Djokovic as soon as possible. Novak needs matches after an extended break.

Thus, Brisbane provided a perfect ground for these two to join forces and catch the tennis world’s attention.
