Cameron Smith has been one of the most famous names in the golf scene for several years now. However, his greatest growth happened three years ago, after winning The Open Championship. Although everything predicted that the winner of this tournament would be Viktor Hovland or Rory McIlroy, the Australian golfer managed to play incredibly, and in the end to celebrate in this tournament.
In an interview with Man of Many, the Australian revealed how he felt before the last day, aware of how difficult it would be to celebrate. Cameron stressed that nervousness got into his blood only on the last holes, but he managed to stay calm and solve things in the right way.
“I actually wasn’t too (nervous) bad leading into the final day. I think being quite a ways back and having to play some really good golf almost frees you up, in a sense, to go out there and just be really aggressive,” Smith said.
“The nerves definitely changed with three or four holes to go, and I will say, it was pretty nerve-wracking. Obviously, not having won a major before, all that stuff is weighing on your mind, and it all comes at you pretty quick. So yeah, from the feeling from the start of the day to the end of the day was very different.”
Cameron Smith shares his emotions
Cameron Smith played an incredible round, especially when it comes to the last nine holes, winning five birdies. LIV Golfer admits that it was difficult, especially because the crowd was against him. Nevertheless, he shares that such things were an additional motive for him, using the opportunity that presented itself.
“It is definitely nerve-wracking to have to hole certain putts and the crowd was definitely against me as well. All of that really motivated me to play through and obviously, I just really wanted to get it done.”
