Jannik Sinner will have to be very good at managing these three months in which he will not be able to compete on the professional tour. Due to the agreement with WADA – which was made official last Saturday – the world number 1 will have to stay put until May 4, before returning to action at the Rome Masters 1000.
Until April 13, the Italian ace will not be able to practice in any official structure either in Italy or abroad. However, it will not be difficult for a player of this caliber to find private facilities in which to maintain the right shape.
The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria – who started 2025 by winning his second Australian Open in a row – soon took a few breaks to metabolize the news of his agreement with WADA, which has generated a huge number of reactions in the last week.
The 3-time Grand Slam champion – who has always professed his innocence and who had been cleared of all charges in the first instance by ITIA – was convinced by his lawyers that it would not make sense to go all the way to the trial before the CAS in Lausanne.
Jannik has to serve this period of suspension due to a mistake by two former members of his team – Giacomo Naldi and Umberto Ferrara – who were both dismissed in the latter part of last year. Ferrara has resumed work in the world of tennis together with another Italian ace, 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini.
Sinner will have the support of his team
In addition to not being able to train in any official facility until April 13, Sinner will not be able to practice with any active ATP or WTA player. This means that the world number 1 will not be able to train with his current girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya either.
However, the Italian champion will be able to have his team by his side during this period. His two coaches Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill have been fundamental for Jannik in the last year, allowing the Italian to remain calm despite the enormous stress on his shoulders related to the doping case that has affected him.
