Carlos Alcaraz without Juan Carlos Ferrero in Doha

Last Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz won his first title of 2025 in Rotterdam. The Spanish ace’s run in Holland was not perfect, indeed he had numerous difficulties during the week, but he was able to emerge in the decisive moments and never lose confidence in his abilities.

The 21-year-old from Murcia lifted his first trophy in indoor conditions, where he can still improve a lot by his own admission, and hopes to continue to achieve prestigious results in the rest of the season.

The former world No.1 hasn’t had much time to rest after the Rotterdam ATP 500, as he will compete in the Doha ATP 500 next week. According to MARCA, the 4-time Grand Slam champion has prioritized above all physical work and rest in these days before leaving for Qatar.

The Spaniard will be accompanied by Samuel Lopez as in Rotterdam, while Juan Carlos Ferrero will return to Carlos’ garage in Indian Wells.

Alcaraz flew to Doha

Before flying to Doha on Thursday, the current world No.3 practiced at a historic tennis club in Madrid and sent a message to his fans via his official X profile. Carlitos will have to play near-perfect tennis if he wants to win in Doha as well, given the presence of world No.1 Jannik Sinner and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic (who eliminated the Spaniard at the Australian Open last month).

Fans and tournament organizers are hoping for a dream match between Alcaraz and Sinner, who have not faced each other since the 2024 Beijing ATP 500 final last October. That battle was truly spectacular and is considered as one of the best matches of last season.

The Doha ATP is a very prestigious event, as evidenced by the list of winners. Roger Federer has won three times in Qatar, Andy Murray has won twice, Rafael Nadal triumphed in 2014 and Nole Djokovic lifted the trophy in 2016 and 2017.
